Build a mobile-first personal finance onboarding feature that helps new investors and salary earners take a safe first financial step with confidence

Problem Statement Description

Design a mobile-first onboarding experience for a consumer finance app aimed at new investors and salary earners who want to take their first meaningful financial step but may feel unsure, overwhelmed, or worried about making a mistake. The experience should help users move from initial interest to a trusted activation moment, such as setting up a savings habit, understanding a suitable low-risk investment path, completing KYC, or taking another appropriate first action.

Your focus is the early user journey: how someone with limited financial confidence discovers what is relevant to them, shares the minimum necessary information, understands risk and suitability, and feels safe enough to proceed. Consider users who may have irregular financial literacy, salary constraints, privacy concerns, fear of hidden charges, and uncertainty around regulated financial products.

The product should balance user confidence, regulatory responsibility, business activation, and operational feasibility. You should not assume that pushing users quickly into investing is always the right outcome; the onboarding should support safe, informed, and compliant decision-making.

The experience should consider:

- The target user segments, including first-time investors, young salary earners, and users with low financial literacy

- Key onboarding steps from app open to first trusted financial action

- How to collect income, goals, risk appetite, KYC, and consent without creating excessive friction

- How to explain financial choices, risks, fees, and suitability in clear mobile-first language

- Trust-building moments, including privacy, security, transparency, and reassurance

- Edge cases such as incomplete KYC, low disposable income, failed verification, or unsuitable risk profiles

- Accessibility, localization, and inclusive design for a broad consumer finance audience

- Success indicators for activation quality, user confidence, compliance, and long-term retention

Your goal is to define a coherent product experience that helps cautious new users make a responsible first financial move with confidence, while protecting them from inappropriate choices and maintaining trust in the finance platform.
