Problem Statement Description
Product context: Airbnb is a travel marketplace connecting guests and hosts; its products include stays, experiences, host tools, guest booking, trust and safety, payments, and reviews.
Airbnb is preparing to launch a high-risk AirCover feature aimed at group travelers, where multiple guests may depend on the same booking for an important trip. The feature is intended to improve trust and confidence when something goes wrong, but it may also create operational complexity, financial exposure, policy ambiguity, and marketplace risk for hosts and guests.
You are the PM responsible for creating the launch plan. Focus on how Airbnb should safely bring this feature to market, coordinate cross-functional teams, validate readiness, manage edge cases, and protect the marketplace experience during rollout.
Assume the feature touches guest support, host policies, claims or issue resolution, trust and safety, payments or reimbursements, and communications across multiple travelers in a booking. The plan should account for the fact that group travel issues can be urgent, emotionally charged, expensive, and highly visible if mishandled.
The experience should consider:
- Launch sequencing across pilots, limited markets, traveler segments, and broader availability
- Owners and dependencies across product, engineering, operations, legal, policy, customer support, finance, and trust teams
- Readiness criteria for support tooling, escalation paths, host education, guest communications, and claims handling
- Go/no-go metrics, operational thresholds, and marketplace health indicators before expanding
- Risks such as abuse, unclear eligibility, inconsistent support decisions, host dissatisfaction, cost overruns, and regulatory concerns
- Rollback or containment plans if claims volume, support burden, fraud signals, or host impact exceed expectations
- Communication plans for guests, hosts, internal teams, and frontline support agents
- Post-launch monitoring, incident response, feedback loops, and iteration cadence
Your goal is to present a practical execution plan that shows how you would launch the feature responsibly, reduce downside risk, coordinate the right teams, and make clear decisions about whether to pause, expand, or adjust the rollout.
