Problem Statement Description
Product context: Stripe is financial infrastructure for internet businesses; its products include payments, Checkout, Billing, Connect, Radar, Issuing, Terminal, and tax tools.
Stripe Checkout is introducing a high-risk feature for marketplace businesses, where a platform may need to support buyers, sellers, split payments, onboarding, compliance requirements, refunds, disputes, and regional payment method differences within a hosted checkout flow. Because marketplaces often operate across multiple parties and jurisdictions, a launch failure could affect payment completion, seller payouts, buyer trust, fraud exposure, or regulatory obligations.
You are the Product Manager responsible for planning the launch. The feature is not a simple UI change; it touches money movement, platform integrations, developer configuration, risk controls, support readiness, and operational monitoring. Marketplace customers will expect the feature to improve their buyer and seller experience without reducing payment reliability or creating unexpected compliance or reconciliation issues.
Your task is to describe how you would take this feature from pre-launch readiness through rollout and post-launch stabilization. Focus on the execution plan: who needs to be involved, what must be validated before release, how rollout should be sequenced, what risks need active management, and how the team should decide whether to expand, pause, or roll back.
The experience should consider:
- Launch objectives, target marketplace customer segments, and what “safe to launch” means for this feature
- Cross-functional owners across product, engineering, risk, compliance, support, sales, partnerships, data, and developer documentation
- Dependencies such as payment method support, connected account behavior, payout flows, refunds, disputes, tax or compliance considerations, and regional readiness
- Pre-launch validation, including integration testing, sandbox behavior, internal dogfooding, pilot customer selection, and operational playbooks
- Rollout sequencing, such as private beta, limited geography or payment method exposure, traffic ramping, and customer eligibility criteria
- Go/no-go criteria, launch metrics, guardrails, incident thresholds, rollback paths, and escalation mechanisms
- Customer and internal communication plans, including developer guidance, support training, sales enablement, and marketplace-specific FAQs
- Post-launch monitoring, feedback loops, issue triage, and criteria for broader availability
The goal is to demonstrate how you would run a disciplined, risk-aware launch for a payments infrastructure product where reliability, compliance, conversion, merchant trust, and developer experience all matter.
