Problem Statement Description
You are the PM responsible for launching a new or significantly improved team collaboration experience for power users in a large-scale digital product. The business objective is to improve retention by making recurring team workflows more reliable, valuable, and habit-forming for users who already collaborate frequently and are likely to influence broader team adoption.
This is an execution-focused question. You are not being asked to design the entire feature from scratch or prove the retention strategy in detail; instead, focus on how you would plan and manage the launch so that the team can move from readiness to rollout with clear ownership, sequencing, risk management, measurement, and decision points.
Assume the product involves multi-user workflows such as shared workspaces, comments, tasks, notifications, permissions, activity history, or integrations. The launch must account for existing users, team admins, individual contributors, customer-facing teams, support, data/analytics, engineering, design, and go-to-market partners.
The experience should consider:
- Target launch audience, including how power users are identified and whether rollout begins with specific teams, accounts, regions, or usage cohorts
- Launch objectives tied to retention, such as repeat collaboration, team activation, workspace return rate, reduced churn risk, or expansion of collaborative usage
- Operating plan across product, engineering, design, data, support, legal/privacy, marketing, sales/customer success, and leadership stakeholders
- Sequencing of alpha, beta, staged rollout, general availability, and post-launch optimization
- Dependencies such as permissions, notifications, onboarding, data migration, integrations, documentation, customer education, and support readiness
- Go/no-go criteria, including product quality, reliability, adoption signals, user feedback, retention leading indicators, and unresolved launch blockers
- Rollback or mitigation plans for collaboration failures, notification overload, access-control issues, degraded performance, or negative user sentiment
- Communication plan for internal teams and external users, including how expectations, behavior changes, and support paths are handled
Your goal is to present a practical launch plan that shows how you would coordinate cross-functional execution, reduce launch risk, measure whether the collaboration experience is improving retention, and make informed decisions before, during, and after rollout.
