Problem Statement Description
Product context: Google is a consumer technology, ads, AI, and cloud company; its products include Search, YouTube, Android, Maps, Gmail, Chrome, Google Play, Workspace, and Google Cloud.
Google’s executive team is reviewing the health and direction of Search as a global product and business. The dashboard needs to support senior-level decisions across user experience, information quality, advertiser value, revenue durability, ecosystem shifts, and competitive pressure from players such as Microsoft, OpenAI, TikTok, Apple, and Amazon.
The focus is not simply to list metrics, but to design an executive-ready measurement system for Search. The dashboard should help leaders quickly understand whether Search is serving users well, whether advertisers are getting measurable value, whether the business is growing sustainably, and where emerging risks or opportunities require action.
Assume the audience includes product, business, ads, trust, privacy, and engineering executives. The dashboard should balance long-term product health with monetization, avoid misleading vanity metrics, and be usable across markets, devices, query types, advertiser segments, and new AI-driven Search experiences.
The experience should consider:
- Clear definitions for each metric, including numerator, denominator, time window, and level of aggregation.
- How to separate user-side Search health from advertiser-side marketplace health while still showing their relationship.
- Cohorts and cuts such as geography, device, query intent, new versus returning users, advertiser size, industry, and campaign objective.
- Instrumentation needs, data sources, freshness, attribution limits, and potential measurement bias.
- Guardrail metrics for trust, information quality, privacy, ad load, user satisfaction, and ecosystem harm.
- How executives should distinguish short-term fluctuations from structural changes in Search behavior or advertiser demand.
- How the dashboard should surface competitive, AI, and platform-shift signals without overreacting to noisy data.
- What decisions the dashboard should enable, such as investment prioritization, product intervention, pricing or auction review, market-specific action, or deeper diagnosis.
The goal is to define a rigorous, decision-useful executive dashboard for Google Search that captures both consumer value and advertiser value, highlights risks early, and gives leadership a reliable view of whether Search is healthy, competitive, and sustainable at global scale.
