Problem Statement Description
Product context: Tesla is an electric vehicle, energy, and software company; its products include EVs, charging, vehicle software, Autopilot/FSD features, energy storage, and solar products.
Tesla is expanding the role of Energy in the EV buyer journey globally. For a prospective or recent EV buyer, Energy may influence confidence in ownership through home charging readiness, solar and storage options, charging cost management, grid resilience, and the broader Tesla ecosystem across vehicle, app, hardware, installation, and service touchpoints.
Your task is to define how Tesla should measure whether Energy is successfully serving EV buyers at global scale. This is a metrics interview question, so focus on building a clear measurement framework rather than proposing product features. Consider the full customer lifecycle: discovery during vehicle shopping, configuration or purchase, installation or activation, ongoing usage, support, and long-term retention.
The challenge is that “success” may vary by region, housing type, energy market structure, vehicle model, charging access, incentives, installer capacity, and customer expectations.
