Describe a time you used data to change a team decision for a product serving delivery partners

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Amazon is a commerce, logistics, media, devices, and cloud company; its products include Marketplace, Prime, Prime Video, Alexa devices, ads, fulfillment, and AWS.

You are being asked to share a concrete example from your product experience where data helped you challenge or change a team’s intended decision for a product used by delivery partners. The setting should be relevant to a logistics, last-mile delivery, fleet, driver app, routing, onboarding, earnings, safety, quality, or operations workflow where partner behavior and operational outcomes mattered.

Your response should show how you identified that the team’s initial direction might not serve the right user or business outcome, what data you used to investigate the issue, and how you influenced stakeholders to reconsider. The interviewer is looking for evidence that you can combine customer obsession for delivery partners with operational rigor, especially in environments where decisions affect reliability, cost, partner trust, and customer delivery experience.

The story should be specific enough to demonstrate your role, the decision being debated, the data analysis performed, the trade-offs involved, and the final impact. Focus on how you used evidence to move the team from opinion, assumption, or momentum toward a better-informed product or operational decision.

The experience should consider:

- The delivery partner user journey or workflow involved, such as accepting routes, completing stops, handling exceptions, reporting issues, getting paid, or using in-app guidance.

- The original team decision or assumption, and why it mattered for partners, customers, or logistics operations.

- The data sources you used, such as funnel metrics, partner feedback, app telemetry, delivery quality metrics, support contacts, experiments, cohort analysis, or operational dashboards.

- How you validated whether the data was trustworthy, representative, and actionable.

- The stakeholders you needed to influence, such as operations, engineering, design, data science, finance, legal, or regional teams.

- The disagreement, pushback, or ambiguity you faced, and how you communicated the evidence.

- The outcome of the changed decision, including product, partner, customer, or business impact.

- What you learned about using data responsibly in a fast-moving logistics product environment.

The goal is to demonstrate a strong behavioral example of data-informed product leadership: clear ownership, sound judgment, ability to influence without relying only on authority, and measurable impact on a product serving delivery partners.
