Problem Statement Description
Product context: Stripe is financial infrastructure for internet businesses; its products include payments, Checkout, Billing, Connect, Radar, Issuing, Terminal, and tax tools.
Stripe Atlas helps businesses with company formation and operating setup, while enterprise merchants often face more complex workflows as they expand into new markets, create subsidiaries, manage compliance, and prepare financial infrastructure for payments, billing, fraud, and growth. In this product design interview, you are asked to identify a meaningful opportunity within Atlas for enterprise merchants and design a new feature that helps them achieve better business outcomes.
Focus on the real workflow of enterprise merchant teams: finance, legal, operations, payments, risk, and engineering stakeholders who need to coordinate entity setup, documentation, tax/compliance readiness, payment activation, and internal approvals. The pain points may include fragmented ownership, slow market launches, uncertainty around requirements, compliance risk, poor visibility into progress, and difficulty connecting setup decisions to downstream payment performance.
Your scope is to define the user problem clearly, choose an appropriate enterprise merchant persona or workflow, and design a product experience that fits Stripe’s strengths in developer experience, financial reliability, global compliance, conversion optimization, and merchant growth. You should not assume the feature is only a dashboard or only a workflow tool; the interview is about how you reason from user needs to a focused product experience.
The experience should consider:
- Which enterprise merchant user or team owns the problem and who else participates in the workflow
- The specific “better outcome” being targeted, such as faster launch, lower compliance risk, improved payment readiness, higher conversion, or operational efficiency
- Where Atlas fits relative to existing Stripe products across payments, billing, fraud, tax, and financial infrastructure
- Key moments in the merchant journey where friction, ambiguity, or delay currently occurs
- Data, documents, permissions, approvals, or integrations the experience may need to support
- Enterprise constraints such as auditability, security, role-based access, global compliance, and stakeholder coordination
- How the feature could scale across regions, business models, and merchant maturity levels
- How success would be evaluated without compromising trust, compliance, or reliability
The goal is to frame and design a concrete Atlas feature that addresses a high-value enterprise merchant problem, demonstrates strong product judgment, and shows how Stripe can create differentiated value in complex financial infrastructure workflows.
