Problem Statement Description
You are designing an internal payments dispute center for product analysts who monitor, investigate, and resolve payment dispute workflows across a large-scale digital business. These analysts need to understand why disputes are occurring, determine which cases require action, collaborate with operations or risk teams, and complete analysis tasks accurately under time pressure.
Today, the dispute workflow may involve fragmented dashboards, inconsistent case metadata, manual data pulls, unclear ownership, and limited visibility into dispute status or evidence. This creates friction for analysts trying to complete common tasks such as triaging disputes, identifying patterns, validating chargeback reasons, preparing recommendations, and tracking outcomes.
Focus on the product experience for analysts rather than designing a full consumer-facing dispute flow. Consider how the system should help analysts move from question to insight to completed task while supporting accuracy, auditability, and collaboration in a sensitive payments environment.
The experience should consider:
- The primary analyst users, their goals, skill levels, and recurring dispute-related tasks
- Key workflows such as triage, investigation, evidence review, root-cause analysis, escalation, and task closure
- Pain points caused by fragmented data, unclear prioritization, manual reconciliation, or missing context
- Information architecture for cases, transactions, customers, merchants, dispute reasons, timelines, and outcomes
- Collaboration needs across product, payments operations, risk, support, finance, and compliance teams
- Trust, privacy, access control, audit trails, and responsible handling of sensitive payment data
- How task completion should be defined, measured, and improved without encouraging rushed or low-quality decisions
- Edge cases such as high-risk disputes, duplicate cases, missing evidence, international payment methods, or regulatory constraints
Your goal is to define a focused product design that improves analysts’ ability to complete dispute-related tasks efficiently and confidently, while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and operational trust.
