Problem Statement Description
Product context: Spotify is an audio streaming company; its products include music, podcasts, audiobooks, playlists, recommendations, creator tools, subscriptions, and ads.
Spotify Wrapped is a high-visibility annual experience that turns listening behavior into personalized, shareable stories. For audiobook listeners, Wrapped may include distinct behaviors such as books started, completion progress, genres, authors, listening streaks, narration preferences, and cross-format engagement with music or podcasts. Because Wrapped reaches a massive global audience in a short seasonal window, product teams need a reliable way to evaluate experiments before, during, and after launch.
Your task is to design an experimentation dashboard for Wrapped focused on audiobook listeners. The dashboard should help product, data, design, engineering, and marketing teams understand whether new Wrapped variants are improving the user experience, driving meaningful engagement, and avoiding negative effects on retention, trust, monetization, or creator outcomes.
This is a metrics design question, not a visual design exercise. Define what the dashboard should measure, how experiments should be interpreted, what cuts of data matter, and how teams should make decisions from the results. Consider that Wrapped experiments may involve personalized content modules, sharing flows, notifications, recommendations, creator/audiobook tie-ins, or format-specific storytelling.
The experience should consider:
- The primary success metrics for Wrapped experiments, including clear numerators, denominators, and time windows.
- How audiobook listener cohorts should be defined, such as active audiobook listeners, new audiobook users, heavy listeners, partial completers, or cross-format users.
- Instrumentation needs across the Wrapped journey, including eligibility, exposure, card views, taps, shares, skips, saves, follows, audiobook starts, and downstream listening.
- Guardrail metrics for user trust, privacy sensitivity, app performance, notification fatigue, unsubscribes, churn, and negative feedback.
- Experiment readouts by geography, platform, subscription type, language, listening maturity, and content category.
- How to distinguish short-term Wrapped engagement from durable product impact, such as audiobook retention, discovery, completion, or creator engagement.
- Dashboard decision usefulness, including confidence, sample size, experiment status, anomalies, and whether a result is actionable.
- Risks specific to annual, seasonal, and highly personalized experiences where data quality, timing, and user expectations are critical.
The goal is to describe a dashboard that enables Spotify teams to make disciplined experimentation decisions for Wrapped while respecting the uniqueness of audiobook listening behavior, the scale and seasonality of the campaign, and the need for metrics that are both statistically sound and product-relevant.
