Estimate revenue potential for search and recommendations if adoption improves task success

Problem Statement Description

You are evaluating the business upside of improving search and recommendations for analysts who use a large-scale digital product to find information, discover relevant assets, and complete analytical tasks faster. The current experience may include keyword search, suggested reports, recommended datasets, saved queries, related insights, or AI-assisted discovery, but adoption and successful task completion are not yet at their full potential.

Your task is to estimate the revenue potential if better adoption of search and recommendations leads to higher task success. Treat “task success” as analysts being able to find the right information, complete a workflow, make a decision, or produce an output without excessive rework, abandonment, or manual support. The revenue upside may come from increased retention, higher engagement, expansion, usage-based monetization, premium feature adoption, reduced support cost, or productivity value that can be converted into willingness to pay.

The experience should consider:

- The target population of analysts and how to define the addressable user base.

- The unit of revenue impact, such as revenue per analyst, account, session, query, task, or subscription tier.

- Current and future adoption of search and recommendation features.

- Frequency of analyst workflows and the share of workflows influenced by discovery quality.

- Baseline task success rate and the expected improvement from better search and recommendations.

- How improved success translates into monetizable outcomes such as conversion, retention, expansion, or usage.

- Key assumptions, sensitivity ranges, and which variables most affect the estimate.

- Sanity checks against market size, current revenue, comparable feature impact, and realistic behavioral change.

The goal is to structure a clear, defensible guesstimate that connects user behavior to business value. Focus on making assumptions explicit, choosing reasonable ranges, and showing how adoption and task success improvements can translate into incremental revenue potential.
