Problem Statement Description
Healthcare coordinators often manage high-volume, time-sensitive communication across patients, clinicians, care teams, and administrative systems. A notification preference center lets them control which alerts they receive, through which channels, at what priority, and under what escalation rules. As usage grows across more organizations, care programs, locations, and coordinator roles, the system must scale without creating alert fatigue, missed critical updates, or loss of trust.
In this technical PM interview, evaluate the trade-offs involved in scaling this preference center with retention as the product goal. The focus is not just infrastructure capacity, but whether the technical design supports coordinators’ day-to-day workflows: triaging patient needs, coordinating follow-ups, handling exceptions, and staying responsive without being overwhelmed.
Your evaluation should consider how preferences are modeled, stored, synchronized, enforced, monitored, and evolved over time in a healthcare context where reliability, privacy, auditability, and usability are especially important. You should weigh product impact against engineering complexity, compliance risk, operational burden, and long-term extensibility.
The experience should consider:

- Product trade-offs between giving coordinators more control and keeping the experience simple, safe, and maintainable
The goal is to assess how you structure technical product decisions when scaling a healthcare notification system, how you connect infrastructure and architecture choices to coordinator retention, and how you balance reliability, compliance, usability, and long-term platform flexibility without jumping directly to a single prescribed solution.
