Problem Statement Description
You are the Technical PM for a delivery marketplace’s partner platform, responsible for the subscription renewal journey used by delivery partners to keep access to earning opportunities, platform benefits, insurance/vehicle support, or priority features. The current renewal flow works at moderate scale, but the business now needs to support a much larger partner base across cities, payment methods, device types, and network conditions.
The product goal is verified activation: a delivery partner should not only complete renewal payment, but also be correctly verified, entitled, and activated in downstream systems that control access to orders, benefits, incentives, and compliance status. The challenge is to evaluate the technical trade-offs involved in scaling this journey without creating false activations, payment mismatches, partner lockouts, support spikes, fraud exposure, or operational bottlenecks.
You should approach this as a Technical PM discussion: clarify the renewal workflow, identify the systems involved, define what “verified activation” means technically and operationally, and reason through trade-offs across reliability, latency, consistency, cost, partner experience, risk, and rollout complexity.
The experience should consider:
- The end-to-end partner workflow from renewal reminder, eligibility check, payment, verification, confirmation, and activation.
- Core system dependencies such as partner identity, subscription ledger, payment gateway, fraud/risk checks, entitlement service, dispatch/order allocation systems, notifications, and support tools.
- Data and API requirements for ensuring payment status, verification status, subscription validity, and activation state remain accurate across services.
- Reliability trade-offs around synchronous versus asynchronous processing, retries, idempotency, failure recovery, and handling partial completion states.
- Privacy and security considerations for partner identity, payment data, documents, location or compliance data, and access-control decisions.
- Observability needs, including event tracking, reconciliation dashboards, alerting, audit logs, and support-facing diagnostics.
- Rollout considerations such as migration from the current flow, phased city/cohort launches, backward compatibility, experimentation, and rollback paths.
- Product trade-offs between fast activation, strict verification, fraud prevention, operational cost, and minimizing partner downtime.
Your goal is to evaluate the technical architecture and product choices needed to scale the subscription renewal journey while making verified activation trustworthy, resilient, and understandable for delivery partners and internal teams.
