Plan reliability, privacy, and monitoring for community moderation

Problem Statement Description

You are the Technical PM for a large-scale community moderation platform used by content moderators to review user-generated content, enforce policy, and protect community safety. The system ingests reports, automated signals, user appeals, policy metadata, and reviewer actions across multiple regions, languages, and content types. Moderators rely on it to surface high-risk items, make consistent decisions, and escalate edge cases without exposing unnecessary user data.

The interview asks you to plan the reliability, privacy, and monitoring approach for this moderation workflow. Focus on what the product and technical system must support so that moderation remains trustworthy under high volume, sensitive content, policy changes, abuse spikes, and potential model or infrastructure failures.

You should frame the problem as a Technical PM: define the critical user journeys, data flows, operational risks, privacy constraints, and system observability needed to keep moderators effective while protecting users and the platform.

The experience should consider:

- Core moderation workflows, including intake, prioritization, review, escalation, enforcement, appeals, and audit trails.

- Reliability requirements for queues, reviewer tools, automated classifiers, policy services, notifications, and enforcement actions.

- Data and API needs across reports, content metadata, user/account signals, reviewer decisions, model scores, and enforcement outcomes.

- Privacy and security expectations for sensitive content, personally identifiable information, role-based access, data minimization, retention, and regional compliance.

- Monitoring and observability for latency, backlog health, error rates, model drift, policy coverage, reviewer productivity, false positives/negatives, and safety incidents.

- Failure modes such as queue outages, delayed enforcement, duplicate actions, abusive reporting, model degradation, unauthorized access, and incomplete audit logs.

- Rollout and operational trade-offs across human review, automation, accuracy, speed, moderator wellbeing, transparency, and user trust.

Your goal is to present a clear technical product plan that shows how you would make community moderation dependable, privacy-preserving, measurable, and operable at scale, without prescribing a single implementation too early.
