What API and data model would support a new Creator Tools workflow for commuters

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Spotify is an audio streaming company; its products include music, podcasts, audiobooks, playlists, recommendations, creator tools, subscriptions, and ads.

Spotify is exploring a new Creator Tools workflow that helps audio creators produce, package, and manage content intended for commuter listening moments. The target listeners may be in cars, on public transit, walking, or moving between locations, often with limited attention, variable connectivity, and strong preferences for session length, continuity, and hands-free playback.

As a Technical PM, your task is to define the API and data model that would support this creator-facing workflow. You should think through how creators express commuter-specific intent, how Spotify stores and serves that information, how the experience connects to listener personalization and discovery, and how the system remains reliable across podcasts, music-adjacent creator content, audiobooks, ads, and future audio formats.

The discussion should focus on technical product judgment: what entities, relationships, metadata, APIs, events, permissions, and operational constraints are needed to make the workflow usable for creators and safe to scale globally. You are not expected to write code, but you should be precise enough that engineering, data, design, and platform teams could align on requirements.

The experience should consider:

- Creator workflows such as creating, tagging, scheduling, previewing, editing, and publishing commuter-oriented content

- Core data entities and relationships, including creators, shows, episodes, clips, commute moments, listener contexts, monetization units, and distribution rules

- API requirements for creation, retrieval, update, validation, publishing, analytics, and downstream consumption by recommendation or playback systems

- Metadata quality, schema flexibility, localization, content rights, moderation, and creator permissions

- Data generated by listener interactions, including starts, skips, completions, saves, shares, offline usage, and commute-context signals

- Reliability expectations for publishing pipelines, playback availability, caching, retries, versioning, and backward compatibility

- Privacy, consent, and security considerations when using location, time-of-day, device, or inferred commute behavior

- Rollout, observability, experimentation, and trade-offs between creator control, personalization accuracy, monetization, and system complexity

The goal is to evaluate how you translate a new Spotify creator experience into a scalable technical design, balancing product value for commuters and creators with API clarity, data integrity, privacy, reliability, and long-term platform extensibility.
