Problem Statement Description
Product context: DoorDash is a local commerce and delivery platform; its products include restaurant delivery, DashPass, grocery and retail delivery, merchant tools, and dasher tools.
DoorDash is preparing to launch a high-risk Marketplace feature designed for families at global scale. The feature could affect how households discover merchants, coordinate orders, manage payments, schedule deliveries, or interact with Dashers across food, grocery, and local commerce use cases. Because families often involve multiple users, shared budgets, children, recurring needs, and time-sensitive fulfillment, the launch must be planned with extra care.
You are the PM responsible for creating the execution plan. The launch must account for DoorDash’s three-sided marketplace: consumers, merchants, and Dashers. It should also consider global market variation, operational complexity, reliability expectations, trust and safety, merchant ROI, Dasher earnings, and unit economics.
This is not a request to design the feature itself. Focus on how you would take a high-risk family-oriented Marketplace feature from readiness assessment through phased rollout, monitoring, mitigation, and post-launch learning.
The experience should consider:
- Clear launch objectives, target customer segments, markets, and use cases for families
- Cross-functional owners across product, engineering, design, operations, legal, policy, support, merchant, Dasher, data, and marketing teams
- Key dependencies such as payments, identity, permissions, merchant readiness, Dasher operations, support tooling, localization, and compliance
- Sequencing of pilots, phased market expansion, experiment design, and go/no-go decision points
- Marketplace health risks including delivery reliability, merchant capacity, Dasher supply, cancellations, refunds, fraud, and support volume
- Rollback, kill-switch, incident response, and customer communication plans if the launch creates harm or marketplace imbalance
- Success metrics, guardrails, monitoring cadence, and post-launch review process
Your goal is to present a practical launch plan that would give DoorDash confidence to release a high-risk family-focused Marketplace feature globally while protecting customer trust, operational reliability, merchant outcomes, Dasher experience, and business health.
