Create a metric dashboard for the executive team reviewing Marketplace

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Meta is a social technology company; its products include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Threads, Quest, creator tools, and ads.

Meta’s executive team is reviewing the health and trajectory of Marketplace, with particular attention to marketplace sellers and how effectively the product connects supply with buyer demand across Meta’s social graph. You are asked to define what an executive-facing metric dashboard should show so leaders can quickly understand whether Marketplace is growing, trusted, liquid, and economically valuable.

The dashboard should support high-level decision-making rather than operational debugging alone. It needs to distinguish seller acquisition from seller retention, listing creation from successful transactions, buyer demand from seller-side supply quality, and healthy engagement from activity that may create safety, fraud, or trust risks.

Assume the audience includes senior product, business, integrity, and monetization leaders who need a concise but complete view of Marketplace performance. Your task is to frame the metrics, definitions, cuts, and guardrails that would make the dashboard useful for recurring reviews and strategic decisions.

The experience should consider:

- The primary Marketplace objective the dashboard is meant to track, and how seller health connects to buyer outcomes and overall marketplace liquidity.

- Clear metric definitions, including numerators, denominators, time windows, and whether metrics are user-, listing-, conversation-, or transaction-based.

- Key funnel stages such as seller activation, listing creation, listing quality, buyer discovery, messaging, transaction intent, and completed sale signals.

- Cohorts and segmentations, such as new vs. returning sellers, category, geography, price band, listing age, seller type, and traffic source.

- Instrumentation needs and limitations, especially where transactions may happen offline or through messaging rather than fully tracked checkout flows.

- Guardrail metrics for trust, safety, fraud, spam, policy violations, buyer complaints, seller abuse, and user experience quality.

- Executive-level trend views that separate marketplace growth, retention, liquidity, monetization potential, and operational risk.

- Decision usefulness, including how the dashboard would help identify whether to invest in seller acquisition, listing quality, ranking, messaging, trust systems, or monetization.

The goal is to design a metrics dashboard that gives Meta’s executives a reliable, interpretable view of Marketplace performance and seller ecosystem health, while making trade-offs and risks visible enough to guide product and business decisions.
