Describe a time you used data to change a product decision for Ads

Problem Statement Description

Product context: DoorDash is a local commerce and delivery platform; its products include restaurant delivery, DashPass, grocery and retail delivery, merchant tools, and dasher tools.

DoorDash is evaluating your ability to use evidence to influence product judgment in an Ads context, especially where restaurant advertisers, consumers, Dashers, and marketplace economics may have competing needs. You should describe a real situation where data changed the direction of a product decision, roadmap priority, launch plan, experiment interpretation, or stakeholder recommendation.

Your example should be grounded in an ads or marketplace environment where the decision had meaningful implications for merchant ROI, consumer experience, delivery reliability, or business performance. The focus is not just that you looked at metrics, but that you identified the right data, interpreted it responsibly, and used it to shift a product decision that others may have initially viewed differently.

The experience should consider:

- The original product decision or assumption, and why it mattered for restaurant advertisers or marketplace outcomes

- Your role, ownership, and level of influence in the decision-making process

- The data sources, metrics, user research, experiments, or analyses you used to challenge or validate the decision

- How you handled ambiguity, incomplete data, conflicting signals, or stakeholder disagreement

- The trade-offs considered across advertiser value, consumer relevance, revenue, marketplace balance, and operational reliability

- How you communicated the insight and persuaded others to change course

- The impact of the changed decision, including measurable outcomes where available

- What you learned and how it would apply to building Ads products at DoorDash

The goal is to demonstrate a concise but complete story of data-driven product leadership: a clear context, a specific decision that changed, your personal contribution, the evidence that drove the shift, and the resulting impact and reflection.
