Problem Statement Description
Product context: Amazon is a commerce, logistics, media, devices, and cloud company; its products include Marketplace, Prime, Prime Video, Alexa devices, ads, fulfillment, and AWS.
You are being asked to share a real example where you influenced a product decision for delivery partners by using data rather than opinion, hierarchy, or intuition. The setting should involve a product, feature, workflow, or operational tool used by drivers, couriers, station associates, or other delivery-partner users in an Amazon-like logistics environment.
Focus on a moment where the team was leaning toward a particular decision—such as prioritizing a feature, changing an app flow, launching a policy, adjusting incentives, modifying routing/support experiences, or deprioritizing a partner pain point—and you used evidence to change that direction. The interviewer is looking for how you framed the problem, identified the right data, challenged assumptions constructively, and drove alignment.
Your story should make clear why the decision mattered for delivery partners and the business. For example, the impact could relate to delivery reliability, partner earnings or productivity, onboarding, safety, app usability, defect reduction, support contacts, route completion, or customer promise accuracy.
The experience should consider:
- The original team decision or assumption you disagreed with, and why it was important.
- The delivery-partner workflow involved, including where friction or risk appeared.
- The data you used, such as behavioral logs, operational metrics, support tickets, surveys, experiments, cohort analysis, or qualitative evidence.
- How you verified the data was trustworthy and interpreted it correctly.
- How you communicated the insight to stakeholders who may have had different priorities.
- The trade-offs considered across partner experience, customer experience, cost, speed, and operational complexity.
- The outcome of the changed decision, including measurable impact where possible.
- What you learned about influencing product decisions in a high-ownership, data-driven environment.
Your goal is to tell a concise but substantial story that demonstrates ownership, analytical judgment, customer obsession for delivery partners, and the ability to use data to improve product direction without losing sight of operational realities.
