Problem Statement Description
Product context: Airbnb is a travel marketplace connecting guests and hosts; its products include stays, experiences, host tools, guest booking, trust and safety, payments, and reviews.
Airbnb wants to improve Host Tools for hosts who serve guests working remotely during their stay. Remote workers often evaluate listings differently from leisure travelers: they care about reliable Wi-Fi, comfortable work setups, quiet environments, flexible stays, neighborhood convenience, and confidence that the space will support work calls and focused time.
Today, hosts may not know how to present, configure, or manage their listings for this segment. Important work-related details can be missing, inconsistent, hard to verify, or buried in listing descriptions. This creates friction for guests trying to choose a work-friendly stay and for hosts trying to attract the right bookings, set expectations, and avoid disputes.
Design a new feature within Airbnb Host Tools that helps hosts better support remote workers and improves outcomes for both sides of the marketplace. Focus on the host workflow: how hosts understand demand, prepare or describe their space, manage expectations, and improve the guest experience without creating excessive operational burden.
The experience should consider:
- Which host segment you are designing for, such as individual hosts, professional hosts, urban hosts, long-stay hosts, or hosts in remote-work-friendly destinations
- What “better outcomes” means for remote workers, hosts, and Airbnb, without assuming it is only more bookings
- The key moments in the host workflow where remote-work readiness matters, from listing setup to guest communication to post-stay feedback
- How hosts provide trustworthy information about work-related amenities, constraints, and quality
- How the feature reduces uncertainty for guests while protecting hosts from unrealistic expectations
- How it fits into existing Host Tools, listing management, pricing, messaging, reviews, or quality systems
- What risks could arise around trust, verification, fairness, host effort, guest disappointment, or marketplace quality
The goal is to define a clear product opportunity, identify the core user pain points, and describe a focused feature experience that Airbnb could build into Host Tools to help hosts serve remote workers more effectively while strengthening trust and quality across the marketplace.
