Build a trust-focused improvement for Business Travel used by experience seekers

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Airbnb is a travel marketplace connecting guests and hosts; its products include stays, experiences, host tools, guest booking, trust and safety, payments, and reviews.

Airbnb wants to improve trust in its Business Travel experience for professionals who are not just looking for a place to sleep, but also want a stay that feels reliable, safe, and connected to the local destination. These users may be traveling for meetings, conferences, client visits, offsites, or remote-work trips, while still caring about neighborhood quality, host credibility, flexibility, and access to meaningful experiences outside work hours.

Today, the business-travel workflow can involve higher stakes than leisure travel: travelers may need employer approval, predictable Wi-Fi and workspace, clear cancellation terms, safe arrival, accurate listing details, receipts, and confidence that the host can support work-related needs. At the same time, experience-seeking travelers may be comparing Airbnb against hotels, Booking.com, Expedia, Vrbo, Google Travel, or local rental platforms where trust signals, business amenities, and customer support expectations may be more standardized.

Design a trust-focused product improvement for this Airbnb Business Travel segment. Focus on the end-to-end user journey: discovering suitable stays, evaluating trust and safety, booking with confidence, preparing for the trip, handling issues during the stay, and reflecting after the trip. Do not assume the answer is limited to search or listing pages; the opportunity could sit anywhere in the traveler, host, or marketplace experience.

The experience should consider:

- Who the primary user is: individual business traveler, travel manager, team admin, host, or a combination of stakeholders.

- What “trust” means in this context, such as safety, listing accuracy, host responsiveness, work-readiness, payment clarity, policy transparency, or issue resolution.

- Where business travelers currently face uncertainty or friction when choosing Airbnb over hotels or other travel platforms.

- How experience-seeking needs, such as local discovery, authentic stays, and destination inspiration, interact with business requirements.

- What information, signals, policies, or workflows users need before, during, and after booking to feel confident.

- How the improvement could protect marketplace quality without creating excessive burden for hosts.

- How to handle edge cases such as late check-in, Wi-Fi failure, unsafe neighborhoods, inaccurate amenities, cancellations, or expense/reporting problems.

- What success could look like for travelers, hosts, and Airbnb’s broader trust and marketplace health.

Your goal is to frame a clear user problem, identify the most important trust gap, and propose a product experience that makes Airbnb feel dependable for business travel while preserving the differentiated, local, experience-driven value that attracts this segment.
