Problem Statement Description
Design a security alert center for on-call engineers responsible for monitoring, triaging, escalating, and resolving security-related alerts across a large-scale technology environment. These engineers may be handling alerts from multiple detection systems, cloud services, application logs, identity systems, fraud signals, vulnerability scanners, and third-party security tools while operating under time pressure during active incidents or overnight rotations.
The current workflow likely involves noisy queues, duplicated alerts, unclear severity, fragmented context, manual handoffs, and difficulty distinguishing urgent threats from low-risk events. The product experience should help on-call engineers move through the alert queue more efficiently without missing critical security issues, weakening auditability, or creating unsafe automation.
Focus on the end-to-end experience from alert arrival to triage, investigation, escalation, resolution, and post-incident learning. Consider the needs of primary on-call engineers, secondary responders, security analysts, service owners, engineering managers, and compliance or audit stakeholders.
The experience should consider:

- How to balance automation or AI-assisted recommendations with engineer control, explainability, and safeguards against incorrect suppression or prioritization.
- How the system handles alert fatigue, false positives, recurring alerts, suppressed alerts, and post-resolution feedback loops.
- How the experience supports reliability, security, privacy, access control, audit trails, and compliance needs.
- How success would be reflected in queue efficiency without incentivizing unsafe behavior, such as closing alerts too quickly or ignoring ambiguous threats.
The goal is to define a product experience that helps on-call engineers confidently process security alerts faster and with higher quality, while preserving trust, accountability, and resilience in high-stakes security operations.
