Design the high-level system for a scalable Threads feature used by influencers

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Meta is a social technology company; its products include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Threads, Quest, creator tools, and ads.

Meta wants to evaluate how you would design a high-level technical system for a scalable Threads feature aimed at influencers and creators. The feature should support high-volume public engagement, creator-to-follower interaction, content distribution, and real-time or near-real-time feedback loops in a social graph environment where reliability, safety, and performance matter.

Assume the users are influencers with large follower bases, as well as their audiences who consume, react to, share, and reply to creator content. The system must handle traffic spikes around posts, live moments, announcements, trends, or cross-platform promotion, while preserving a smooth creator experience and protecting audience trust.

You are not expected to write code or produce a low-level architecture diagram. Focus on how you would define the product and technical requirements, identify key services and data flows, reason about APIs and system boundaries, and make trade-offs across scale, latency, ranking, notifications, privacy, abuse prevention, and operational complexity.

The experience should consider:

- Core influencer workflows, such as publishing, audience engagement, analytics, moderation, and managing high-volume interactions

- Functional and non-functional requirements, including scale, latency, availability, consistency, and fault tolerance

- Key APIs, data models, event streams, and service interactions needed to support the feature

- Privacy, security, integrity, and safety considerations for creators and followers

- Reliability during bursty traffic, including degradation modes, rate limits, retries, and backpressure

- Observability needs, including logs, metrics, alerts, tracing, and creator-impact diagnostics

- Rollout strategy across creator cohorts, experimentation, migration risk, and backward compatibility

- Product trade-offs between richness of the creator experience, system complexity, cost, and platform health

Your goal is to present a clear, structured high-level system design that demonstrates technical judgment, product thinking, and an understanding of how a Threads feature for influencers would operate at Meta scale.
