Problem Statement Description
Product context: Zomato is an Indian food-tech and local commerce company; its products include restaurant discovery, reviews, food delivery, dining, ads, restaurant partner tools, and quick commerce through Blinkit.
Zomato serves urban diners who often need to make quick, high-confidence decisions about where to eat or order from. For diners with dietary constraints—such as vegetarian or vegan preferences, allergies, religious dietary needs, medical restrictions, fitness goals, or ingredient sensitivities—the discovery journey is higher stakes because a wrong choice can lead to wasted time, poor experiences, health risks, or loss of trust.
Today, these users may rely on restaurant names, menu descriptions, filters, ratings, photos, reviews, influencer recommendations, and sponsored placements to decide whether a restaurant is suitable. However, the information can be inconsistent, outdated, hard to verify, biased by incentives, or buried across multiple surfaces. Restaurants may also have varying motivation and operational ability to keep dietary information accurate at scale.
Design an improved restaurant discovery and review trust experience for Zomato that helps urban diners with dietary constraints confidently discover, compare, and choose restaurants for dine-in, table booking, or ordering. The design should account for Zomato’s marketplace dynamics, restaurant incentives, review quality, sponsored ranking pressure, regulatory sensitivity around food claims, privacy, accessibility, and operational scalability.
The experience should consider:
- How diners express dietary constraints, preferences, severity, and context without creating excessive onboarding friction.
- How restaurant suitability, menu-level confidence, reviews, photos, ratings, and freshness signals are presented during search, discovery, and decision-making.
- How to build trust in reviews and claims while handling fake reviews, vague feedback, outdated menu data, and restaurant self-reporting.
- How sponsored listings, ads, creator recommendations, and marketplace monetization should coexist with user trust and relevance.
- How restaurants can update and verify dietary information without creating unsustainable operational load.
- How the experience handles edge cases such as allergies, cross-contamination, regional cuisines, ingredient ambiguity, and conflicting user feedback.
- How privacy, accessibility, language/localization, and responsible AI considerations shape the user experience.
- How the product supports both immediate conversion and long-term trust in Zomato’s discovery ecosystem.
Your goal is to frame the user problem clearly, identify the most important user segments and workflows, and design a product experience that improves confidence and conversion for dietary-constrained diners while remaining scalable, trustworthy, and aligned with Zomato’s marketplace business.
