Problem Statement Description
You are the PM for a real estate rental marketplace focused on helping relocating renters find trustworthy homes and submit qualified inquiries to property owners, brokers, or leasing teams. The product currently supports rental home search, listing detail pages, lead submission, and some level of listing verification to reduce scams, stale inventory, and low-quality contacts.
Your team had planned a roadmap across search improvements, listing verification, renter trust signals, broker/listing quality controls, locality insights, and lead qualification. Mid-cycle, engineering capacity is cut in half, but the business still needs to improve qualified property leads while maintaining renter trust and managing operational cost.
You need to explain how you would re-prioritize the roadmap under this constraint. Treat this as an execution prioritization problem: clarify the objective, decide what to keep, cut, defer, or simplify, and describe how you would align stakeholders and manage delivery risk.
The experience should consider:
- The core workflow for relocating renters: discovering homes, judging fit and trustworthiness, contacting the right party, and receiving a useful response.
- Trade-offs between search/discovery features, verification depth, lead quality, operational review, and speed of delivery.
- How reduced engineering capacity changes sequencing, scope, dependencies, and launch milestones.
- Owners across product, engineering, design, data, operations, sales/broker partnerships, and customer support.
- Go/no-go criteria for roadmap items, including expected user impact, business value, effort, risk, and reversibility.
- Risks such as stale listings, fraudulent inventory, poor broker incentives, privacy issues, accessibility gaps, and increased manual operations.
- Communication plans for leadership, commercial teams, operations, and users affected by delayed or reduced functionality.
- Rollback or mitigation plans if prioritized changes reduce lead quality, renter trust, or marketplace liquidity.
Your goal is to present a clear operating plan for making roadmap trade-offs with half the original capacity, while preserving the most important renter and business outcomes for rental home search and verification.
