Redesign the end-to-end small business cash-flow assistant journey to increase actionable cash-flow task completion rate under scale, incentive, and regulatory constraints

Problem Statement Description

Intuit wants to improve the end-to-end cash-flow assistant experience for first-time small business owners who use tools across accounting, invoicing, payroll, taxes, banking connections, and financial reporting. These users often struggle to understand whether they can pay bills, make payroll, set aside taxes, follow up on invoices, or safely invest in growth, especially when their financial data is incomplete, delayed, or spread across multiple systems.

Your task is to redesign the journey so that more users complete actionable cash-flow tasks, not just view insights. The experience may include onboarding, data connection, forecasting, alerts, recommendations, explanations, task creation, reminders, and follow-through. It must account for trust, financial accuracy, regulatory sensitivity, accessibility, privacy, responsible use of automation or AI, and the operational realities of serving small businesses at scale.

Assume the product operates in a high-trust financial environment where incorrect or poorly explained guidance can create real harm. You should focus on the user workflow friction, decision moments, confidence gaps, and constraints that shape whether a small business owner takes action.

The experience should consider:

- The primary user segments, especially first-time business owners with limited financial literacy, time, and cash-flow planning habits.

- The end-to-end workflow from initial setup and data connection to insight discovery, task recommendation, execution, and follow-up.

- What qualifies as an “actionable cash-flow task” and how completion should be supported without overstepping into unsafe financial advice.

- User pain points around trust, explainability, data freshness, uncertainty, and conflicting financial priorities such as payroll, taxes, invoices, and bills.

- Constraints around financial accuracy, compliance risk, privacy, data quality, accessibility, cost, and operational load.

- How incentives should be handled so the assistant prioritizes customer benefit over engagement, upsell, or unnecessary task creation.

- How the design should work at scale across different business types, cash-flow patterns, geographies, and levels of product maturity.

The goal is to define a product experience that increases meaningful task completion while improving financial confidence for small business owners and preserving Intuit’s trust, compliance, and operational standards.
