Problem Statement Description
Intuit serves many first-time business owners who are learning how to manage invoices, expenses, payroll, taxes, and cash reserves while running day-to-day operations. A small business cash-flow assistant can help them understand what is coming in, what is going out, and what actions they should take next, but the current end-to-end journey is not driving enough completion of actionable cash-flow tasks.
Your task is to redesign the user experience for this assistant with the goal of increasing the rate at which small business owners complete meaningful cash-flow actions, such as following up on overdue invoices, scheduling bill payments, setting aside money for taxes, reviewing upcoming shortfalls, or adjusting spending plans. Focus on the full workflow from onboarding and data connection through insight discovery, recommendation, decision-making, and task completion.
Assume the target users are financially anxious, time-constrained, and may not have strong accounting knowledge. The experience must build trust, explain recommendations clearly, and avoid making users feel judged or overwhelmed. It should also respect the sensitivity of financial data and the consequences of inaccurate or poorly timed guidance.
The experience should consider:
- How first-time business owners discover, understand, and start using the cash-flow assistant
- What data the assistant needs, how users connect or verify it, and how to handle missing or low-quality data
- How cash-flow insights are prioritized so users know what requires attention now versus later
- How recommendations become clear, actionable tasks rather than passive financial observations
- How the product explains assumptions, confidence, and trade-offs behind cash-flow guidance
- How to support trust, privacy, accessibility, and compliance-sensitive financial interactions
- How to reduce friction across reminders, approvals, task execution, and follow-up confirmation
- How to measure whether users are becoming more confident and taking healthier financial actions
Your goal is to define a redesigned product journey that helps first-time business owners move from uncertainty to informed action, while increasing actionable cash-flow task completion in a way that is trustworthy, understandable, and appropriate for Intuit’s small business finance ecosystem.
