Product context: Tesla is an electric vehicle, energy, and software company; its products include EVs, charging, vehicle software, Autopilot/FSD features, energy storage, and solar products.

Tesla has launched a major redesign of Model Y and needs a metrics framework to understand whether the redesign is succeeding globally, with particular attention to fleet operators such as rental companies, ride-hailing fleets, delivery fleets, corporate mobility programs, and government or municipal fleets. These buyers evaluate Model Y differently from individual consumers: they care about total cost of ownership, uptime, charging access, safety, serviceability, driver acceptance, software reliability, and resale value across many vehicles and markets.

In this metrics interview, you are asked to build a metric tree that connects the redesigned Model Y’s business outcomes to the underlying customer, product, operational, and ecosystem drivers. It should distinguish leading indicators from lagging outcomes, define denominators clearly, and account for trade-offs between growth, margin, quality, safety, and long-term fleet retention.

The experience should consider:

- The primary outcome metric and how it should be normalized across countries, fleet sizes, vehicle trims, and deployment models.

- The full fleet customer lifecycle, from awareness and evaluation to ordering, delivery, onboarding, utilization, charging, maintenance, renewal, and expansion.

- Cohorts such as geography, fleet type, vehicle configuration, charging access, software package, delivery quarter, and redesigned versus prior-generation Model Y.

- Instrumentation needed from vehicle telemetry, ordering systems, service records, charging sessions, fleet-management integrations, customer support, and financial systems.

- Guardrail metrics for safety, reliability, service burden, manufacturing quality, customer trust, regulatory compliance, and profitability.

- How to separate product redesign impact from external factors such as EV incentives, energy prices, charging availability, competitive launches, macroeconomic conditions, and supply constraints.

- Decision usefulness: what metric movements would indicate a launch issue, a regional scaling problem, a fleet-segment mismatch, or a reason to accelerate investment.

The goal is to produce a clear, structured metric tree that helps Tesla evaluate the redesigned Model Y at global scale for fleet customers, while making explicit what each metric means, who uses it, how it is measured, and what decisions it can support.
