Problem Statement Description
Product context: DoorDash is a local commerce and delivery platform; its products include restaurant delivery, DashPass, grocery and retail delivery, merchant tools, and dasher tools.
DoorDash Grocery is serving enterprise merchants such as large grocery chains that operate across many stores, regions, teams, and technical systems. These merchants depend on DoorDash not only for incremental demand, but also for accurate catalog representation, reliable fulfillment, clear issue resolution, and confidence that the marketplace experience protects their brand with customers.
Design a trust-focused improvement for these enterprise grocery merchants at global scale. The improvement should address a meaningful source of friction in the merchant workflow, such as catalog accuracy, inventory confidence, substitution handling, order quality, store-level accountability, operational visibility, financial reconciliation, or escalation management.
Your solution space should account for the fact that enterprise merchants have multiple stakeholders: corporate ecommerce teams, regional operators, store managers, finance teams, support teams, and technical integration teams. The experience should help them understand what is happening, take appropriate action, and feel confident that DoorDash is a reliable long-term partner.
The experience should consider:
- The specific merchant user or users you are designing for and where trust breaks down in their current workflow
- How grocery-specific complexity affects trust, including out-of-stocks, substitutions, weighted items, pricing, promotions, and freshness expectations
- How enterprise scale changes the product requirements across thousands of stores, multiple countries, and different operating models
- How the experience balances merchant needs with customer experience, Dasher efficiency, marketplace reliability, and DoorDash unit economics
- What data, alerts, controls, reporting, or support workflows merchants may need to diagnose and resolve issues
- How the product would work across integrations, dashboards, store operations, and human support channels
- How to design for transparency without overwhelming merchants with noise or creating unnecessary operational burden
- How success would be evaluated through improvements in trust, reliability, adoption, merchant ROI, and reduced escalations
The goal is to define a product experience that makes enterprise grocery merchants more confident in DoorDash as a scalable, reliable commerce and logistics partner, while preserving a high-quality marketplace experience for customers and Dashers.
