Problem Statement Description
Design a lightweight fraud detection workflow MVP for families using a mature consumer product, such as a payments, shopping, subscription, communication, or account-based digital service. The product already has a large user base, established trust expectations, existing account and notification surfaces, and operational constraints around support volume, privacy, and false alarms.
Families may share devices, payment methods, subscriptions, accounts, delivery addresses, or purchasing authority across adults, children, caregivers, and dependents. This creates ambiguity: some activity may look suspicious but be legitimate family behavior, while actual fraud may be missed because the workflow is too technical, too slow, or only visible to the wrong household member.
Your task is to define an MVP product experience that helps families detect, understand, and act on potentially fraudulent activity without overwhelming them or creating unnecessary friction in normal usage. The workflow should account for how alerts are triggered, how family members review activity, how responsibility and permissions work, and how users recover or escalate when something is truly wrong.
The experience should consider:
- The primary family users and roles, such as account owner, spouse/partner, parent, teen, caregiver, or dependent
- Common fraud or suspicious-activity scenarios relevant to shared consumer accounts and payment relationships
- How the product distinguishes suspicious behavior from normal family usage patterns without requiring excessive setup
- Alerting, review, confirmation, dispute, and recovery moments in the end-to-end user workflow
- Permissioning, privacy, and safety concerns when multiple family members can view or act on account activity
- False positives, alert fatigue, accessibility, and trust implications in a mature product
- Operational constraints, including support handoffs, escalation paths, and minimizing manual review burden
- MVP boundaries: what should be included now versus deferred until the workflow proves useful
The goal is to design a focused, low-friction MVP that reduces fraud risk for families while preserving trust, usability, and scalability in an established consumer product environment.
