Problem Statement Description
Product context: Microsoft is a productivity, software, AI, gaming, and cloud company; its products include Windows, Microsoft 365, Teams, LinkedIn, Xbox, Azure, Dynamics, and Copilot. LinkedIn is Microsoft's professional network; its products include profiles, feed, jobs, recruiting, LinkedIn Learning, sales tools, messaging, and ads.
Microsoft’s executive team is reviewing the health and performance of LinkedIn, with particular attention to the recruiter segment. The task is to define what a high-signal executive metrics dashboard should include so leaders can understand whether LinkedIn is creating durable value for recruiters, candidates, employers, and Microsoft’s broader enterprise ecosystem.
The dashboard should support strategic decision-making rather than day-to-day operational monitoring. It should help executives quickly assess growth, engagement, monetization, marketplace quality, product effectiveness, customer trust, and risks across LinkedIn’s recruiting workflows, including sourcing, outreach, applicant discovery, hiring-team collaboration, and recruiter productivity.
This is a metrics design problem. The focus is not on proposing product features, but on selecting and structuring metrics that are well-defined, measurable, segmented, instrumented correctly, and useful for executive decisions.
The dashboard should consider:
- Clear metric definitions, including numerator, denominator, time window, and whether each metric is a leading, lagging, input, or output metric
- Recruiter-specific cohorts such as enterprise recruiters, staffing agencies, SMB recruiters, paid vs. free users, new vs. tenured customers, geography, industry, and company size
- Marketplace health across recruiters, candidates, jobs, applications, responses, and successful hiring outcomes
- Engagement and workflow metrics that reflect recruiter productivity and meaningful usage, not just surface-level activity
- Monetization metrics for LinkedIn’s recruiting products, including revenue quality, retention, expansion, and customer concentration risks
- Instrumentation requirements, data freshness, attribution challenges, funnel tracking, and data quality checks
- Guardrail metrics around candidate experience, spam, trust, privacy, compliance, fairness, and platform abuse
- Executive decision usefulness, including which metrics indicate when to invest, investigate, change strategy, or escalate risk
The goal is to design a concise but comprehensive executive dashboard that gives Microsoft leadership a reliable view of LinkedIn’s recruiter business performance, marketplace quality, and long-term strategic health.
