Problem Statement Description
Product context: Apple is a consumer hardware, software, and services company; its products include iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, iOS, App Store, iCloud, Apple Music, and Apple TV+.
Apple Pay is a core part of Apple’s commerce ecosystem, used across apps, websites, and in-person experiences. For this product design question, focus on developers who integrate, maintain, or optimize Apple Pay experiences for their businesses—such as app developers, commerce platforms, marketplace teams, subscription services, or payment infrastructure teams.
Your task is to design a new Apple Pay feature that helps these developers achieve better outcomes. “Better outcomes” could relate to faster integration, higher checkout conversion, fewer payment failures, easier debugging, stronger user trust, improved accessibility, better post-payment handling, or clearer insight into Apple Pay performance. The feature should fit Apple’s expectations around privacy, security, premium user experience, and ecosystem consistency.
Consider the developer workflow end to end: discovering Apple Pay capabilities, implementing the APIs or SDKs, testing across devices and regions, launching safely, monitoring performance, diagnosing issues, and iterating after launch. The strongest framing will identify a specific developer pain point and connect it to both developer success and Apple Pay’s user-facing quality.
The experience should consider:
- Which developer segment you are designing for and what outcome matters most to them
- Where friction exists today in the Apple Pay integration, testing, launch, or optimization workflow
- How the feature fits into Apple’s developer ecosystem, such as Xcode, App Store Connect, Wallet, Apple Developer documentation, or payment APIs
- How privacy, security, and data minimization shape what information developers can access
- How the feature preserves a seamless and trusted Apple Pay experience for end users
- What constraints may exist across devices, operating systems, merchants, regions, payment networks, and compliance requirements
- How developers would discover, adopt, and repeatedly use the feature
- What signals would indicate the feature is improving developer outcomes without harming consumer trust
The goal is to define a clear user problem, propose a thoughtful product experience, and explain how it would create value for developers while strengthening Apple Pay’s broader ecosystem.
