Problem Statement Description
Product context: Apple is a consumer hardware, software, and services company; its products include iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, iOS, App Store, iCloud, Apple Music, and Apple TV+.
Apple Vision Pro introduces creators to a spatial computing workflow that is very different from familiar desktop, mobile, camera, and editing-tool experiences. For photographers, filmmakers, designers, 3D artists, educators, and social/content creators, the first few sessions are critical: they need to understand what Vision Pro can uniquely help them create, how to bring existing assets into the environment, and how to move from exploration to an actual creative output.
The onboarding experience today should be examined through the lens of creator intent, not just device setup. A creator may be trying to preview immersive video, edit spatial media, storyboard in 3D, collaborate with others, capture content, use existing Apple ecosystem tools, or discover compatible apps. The challenge is to reduce early friction while preserving Apple’s expectations around privacy, premium UX, accessibility, and seamless hardware-software integration.
Design an improved onboarding experience for creators using Vision Pro. Focus on the user journey from initial setup and first creative session through reaching a meaningful “first creation” or productive workflow milestone. You may define the specific creator segment you want to prioritize, but make clear who they are, what job they are trying to accomplish, and why Vision Pro is uniquely relevant to them.
The experience should consider:
- The creator persona, their current tools, and the workflow they are bringing into Vision Pro
- Key onboarding moments: setup, calibration, input learning, app discovery, asset import, creation, preview, export, or sharing
- Frictions specific to spatial computing, such as gestures, comfort, learning curve, file movement, collaboration, and confidence in output quality
- How Apple ecosystem integrations could support continuity across iPhone, Mac, iPad, iCloud, Final Cut, Photos, or other creative tools
- How to balance guided learning with fast access for experienced creators who want to start working immediately
- Accessibility, comfort, privacy, and trust considerations during onboarding
- Signals that the onboarding has succeeded, such as activation, first completed creation, repeat creative sessions, or creator retention
The goal is to propose a thoughtful product experience that helps creators quickly understand Vision Pro’s creative value, overcome first-use barriers, and build confidence that the device can become part of their ongoing creative workflow.
