Problem Statement Description
Product context: Zepto is an Indian quick-commerce company; its products include rapid grocery delivery, fresh produce, everyday essentials, local inventory, and dark-store operations.
Zepto serves customers who expect household essentials to arrive quickly, reliably, and with minimal planning. In this question, focus on busy households that repeatedly buy items like milk, eggs, bread, diapers, vegetables, pet food, toiletries, or cleaning supplies, but often remember them only when they are about to run out—or discover at checkout/delivery that an item is unavailable.
Your task is to design an MVP product experience that helps these customers remember essentials before they run out and confidently handle substitutions when the exact item is unavailable. The experience should fit a Zepto-style quick-commerce context, where inventory is hyperlocal, delivery promises are short, and trust can be damaged by poor recommendations, unwanted replacements, or surprise stockouts.
Assume the product can use signals such as purchase history, cart behavior, delivery location, product availability, and customer preferences, but must be careful about privacy, notification fatigue, operational complexity, and picker accuracy. The MVP should be scoped tightly enough to launch, learn, and improve basket completion without creating a heavy subscription or planning experience.
The experience should consider:
- The core user journey from noticing a need, being reminded, adding essentials, approving substitutions, and receiving the order.
- Which customer segment and household use cases to prioritize for the MVP.
- How the product identifies “likely running out soon” without feeling creepy or inaccurate.
- How substitution preferences are collected, shown, edited, and respected during checkout and fulfillment.
- How to handle low-stock, out-of-stock, and post-order substitution scenarios.
- How to maintain customer trust through transparency, control, and clear communication.
- Accessibility, notification design, and low-friction flows for repeat purchases.
- Operational constraints such as dark-store availability, picker workflows, refund handling, and support escalations.
The goal is to define an MVP that improves replenishment convenience and basket completion while preserving the speed, reliability, and trust expected from a quick-commerce product like Zepto.
