Design a better food delivery group ordering experience for office lunch coordinators that improves repeat group orders under scale, incentive, and regulatory constraints

Problem Statement Description

Swiggy wants to improve the office lunch group-ordering experience for employees who coordinate meals for teams, departments, or recurring workplace events. These coordinators often manage preferences, dietary restrictions, budgets, payment collection, restaurant selection, order cutoffs, delivery timing, and post-order issue resolution across many participants. The current workflow can become stressful when orders scale beyond a few people, especially during peak lunch hours in dense urban markets.

Your task is to design a better group ordering experience that increases repeat group orders while accounting for food delivery marketplace realities: restaurant preparation variability, delivery batching, office access constraints, incentives, cancellations, refunds, and customer support load. The experience should feel reliable for coordinators, convenient for participants, and operationally feasible for Swiggy, restaurants, and delivery partners.

Assume this is a product design interview for a high-frequency Indian food delivery context. You should define the target users, identify the key moments of friction in the group-ordering journey, and propose what the product experience must support without relying on unlimited discounts, manual operations, or unrealistic fulfillment guarantees.

The experience should consider:

- The end-to-end workflow for office lunch coordinators, from planning and inviting participants to ordering, tracking, delivery, issue resolution, and reordering.

- Different participant needs, including cuisine preferences, dietary restrictions, payment modes, privacy expectations, and accessibility.

- How group size, restaurant capacity, preparation times, delivery batching, and office drop-off logistics affect reliability.

- Incentive design for repeat usage without creating unsustainable discounts, fraud, or unfair marketplace outcomes.

- Regulatory and trust considerations around payments, invoices, GST/business receipts, data privacy, refunds, and food safety expectations.

- Product mechanisms that reduce coordinator effort while preserving control over budget, cutoff times, restaurant choice, and substitutions.

- How the experience could work at scale across cities, office types, restaurants, and peak-demand periods.

The goal is to frame a clear product opportunity, design a thoughtful user experience, and explain how it would make office group ordering easier, more trustworthy, and more repeatable for Swiggy’s customers while remaining viable for the marketplace ecosystem.
