Problem Statement Description
Product context: Meta is a social technology company; its products include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Threads, Quest, creator tools, and ads.
Meta Quest is preparing for a launch aimed at influencers and creators who can showcase immersive experiences, drive social sharing, and help build momentum across Meta’s ecosystem. Late in the launch cycle, engineering constraints have created a delay, forcing the team to reassess timing, scope, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations.
You are the PM responsible for re-planning execution. The focus is not on designing a new product strategy, but on how you would manage the delayed launch in a disciplined way: clarify what is blocked, align teams on trade-offs, protect user experience and brand trust, and determine what can still be delivered safely.
Your plan should account for Meta’s environment, where launches can involve hardware, software, creator partnerships, safety reviews, marketing commitments, app ecosystem readiness, and competitive timing against platforms like Apple, Snap, TikTok, YouTube, and Discord.
The re-plan should consider:
- The root engineering constraint, its impact on launch-critical functionality, and what information is needed from engineering.
- Owners across product, engineering, design, QA, legal, privacy, marketing, partnerships, creator teams, and support.
- Revised scope, sequencing, dependencies, and whether any features should be delayed, phased, or de-risked.
- Go/no-go criteria for launch readiness, including quality, safety, reliability, privacy, and creator experience.
- Communication plans for executives, internal teams, influencer partners, developers, advertisers, and customer-facing channels.
- Launch risks such as poor first impressions, broken creator workflows, negative social amplification, or competitive windows.
- Contingency planning, rollback paths, support readiness, and post-launch monitoring.
The goal is to describe how you would regain control of execution after the delay, make clear trade-off decisions, coordinate stakeholders, and create a credible path to launch without compromising product quality, user trust, or Meta Quest’s market momentum.
