Problem Statement Description
Product context: Amazon is a commerce, logistics, media, devices, and cloud company; its products include Marketplace, Prime, Prime Video, Alexa devices, ads, fulfillment, and AWS. Prime Video is Amazon's streaming video service; its products include movies, series, live sports, rentals, channels, recommendations, downloads, and ad-supported viewing.
Prime Video is preparing to launch a customer-facing product, feature, or content experience for video subscribers, but engineering constraints have created a launch delay. The issue may involve platform readiness, streaming reliability, device compatibility, backend scalability, payments/entitlements, personalization, or other technical dependencies that affect the release plan.
You are the product manager responsible for re-planning execution. The interviewer is looking for how you would assess the impact, reset the operating plan, align stakeholders, manage customer and business risk, and determine whether to delay, de-scope, phase, or otherwise adjust the launch without compromising the customer experience.
Your response should reflect an Amazon-style execution environment: high customer expectations, cross-functional dependencies across engineering, design, content, operations, marketing, support, and leadership, and a need for clear ownership, crisp decision-making, and measurable launch readiness.
The re-plan should consider:
- The nature and severity of the engineering constraint, including what is blocked, partially ready, or at risk
- Impact on customers, video subscribers, content partners, marketing commitments, and business goals
- Updated owners, workstreams, dependencies, milestones, and critical path sequencing
- Options such as phased rollout, reduced scope, feature flagging, launch delay, regional/device-based launch, or internal beta
- Go/no-go criteria, launch readiness metrics, quality bars, and escalation mechanisms
- Communication plan for leadership, engineering, operations, customer support, marketing, and external-facing teams
- Rollback, mitigation, and contingency planning if the revised launch encounters issues
- Post-launch monitoring, defect triage, and prevention of similar planning failures in future launches
The goal is to describe how you would create a practical, risk-aware execution plan that protects the Prime Video customer experience while giving the team a clear path to launch with accountability, transparency, and operational discipline.
