Problem Statement Description
Product context: Amazon is a commerce, logistics, media, devices, and cloud company; its products include Marketplace, Prime, Prime Video, Alexa devices, ads, fulfillment, and AWS. Prime Video is Amazon's streaming video service; its products include movies, series, live sports, rentals, channels, recommendations, downloads, and ad-supported viewing.
Prime Video is preparing to launch a new customer-facing experience for video subscribers, but the launch timeline is now at risk because engineering has identified constraints that prevent the original plan from shipping as scheduled. The delay may affect customer commitments, partner coordination, marketing plans, app-store or device certification windows, and internal business expectations.
You are the product manager responsible for re-planning execution. The interviewer wants to understand how you diagnose the constraint, reset the plan, manage trade-offs, align stakeholders, and protect the customer experience without simply pushing the date or cutting scope blindly.
Assume this is a high-visibility Amazon environment with multiple dependencies across engineering, design, QA, data, content/partner teams, marketing, customer support, and leadership. Your response should show how you would operate under ambiguity, make decisions with incomplete information, and maintain accountability for launch quality.
The experience should consider:
- How you clarify the nature, severity, and root cause of the engineering constraint.
- How you reassess scope, timeline, resourcing, dependencies, and launch readiness.
- How you define owners, decision points, escalation paths, and communication cadence.
- How you evaluate options such as phased launch, reduced scope, delayed launch, feature flagging, or regional/device-specific rollout.
- How you set go/no-go criteria, quality bars, risk thresholds, and rollback plans.
- How you coordinate with marketing, customer support, content/partner teams, analytics, and leadership.
- How you protect Prime Video subscriber trust, reliability, and customer experience during the replanning process.
- How you communicate the revised plan clearly, including trade-offs, risks, and expected outcomes.
Your goal is to describe a practical execution plan for recovering from the delay: what you would do first, how you would make trade-off decisions, how you would align teams, and how you would ensure the eventual launch is both operationally sound and customer-obsessed.
