Problem Statement Description
Product context: LinkedIn is Microsoft's professional network; its products include profiles, feed, jobs, recruiting, LinkedIn Learning, sales tools, messaging, and ads.
LinkedIn Company Pages are a key surface where organizations establish their professional identity, showcase culture and jobs, and engage talent, customers, and employees. Recruiters depend on these pages to strengthen employer brand, route candidates to relevant roles, and create trust before outreach or application.
You are the PM responsible for an execution effort on Company Pages, but launch is blocked by a cross-functional conflict. Teams may disagree on priorities, resourcing, launch readiness, user experience, data quality, monetization impact, or risk to LinkedIn’s professional trust. Your task is to explain how you would diagnose the conflict, align stakeholders, and drive the work to a clear operating decision.
Focus on how you would run the process rather than proposing a specific feature. The interviewer is looking for how you create clarity under ambiguity, balance recruiter and company needs with LinkedIn platform constraints, and move a blocked initiative toward accountable execution.
The experience should consider:
- Who the key stakeholders are, such as product, engineering, design, data science, sales, customer support, trust, legal, marketing, and recruiting-solutions teams.
- What information you would gather to understand the disagreement, including user impact, business impact, technical constraints, customer commitments, and launch risks.
- How you would define the decision to be made, the accountable owner, and the criteria for resolving the conflict.
- How you would sequence next steps, dependencies, and milestones to avoid prolonged stalemate.
- What go/no-go criteria you would use before shipping changes to Company Pages.
- How you would communicate trade-offs and decisions to executives, partner teams, and customer-facing teams.
- What rollback, mitigation, or phased-launch plans would be needed if the conflict involves risk to trust, recruiter workflow, or page quality.
- How you would prevent similar cross-functional blockers in future launches.
Your goal is to demonstrate an execution-oriented approach to unblocking a LinkedIn product initiative: clarify the problem, align the right people, make trade-offs explicit, create an operating plan, manage launch risk, and ensure the outcome supports both recruiter needs and LinkedIn’s trusted professional ecosystem.
