What API and data model would support a new Gemini workflow for creators

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Google is a consumer technology, ads, AI, and cloud company; its products include Search, YouTube, Android, Maps, Gmail, Chrome, Google Play, Workspace, and Google Cloud.

Google is exploring a new Gemini-powered workflow for creators who plan, generate, edit, package, and publish content across formats such as short-form video, images, captions, scripts, thumbnails, and campaign variants. Creators may be independent individuals, teams, agencies, or enterprise brand partners, and they need an experience that can move from idea to asset to distribution while preserving quality, attribution, safety, and control.

In this technical PM interview, define the API and data model that would support this creator workflow. Focus on how product requirements translate into developer-facing primitives, data entities, permissions, lifecycle states, and integration points across Google’s ecosystem and external creator tools. The workflow should be designed for global scale, multimodal AI usage, privacy-preserving personalization, and responsible generation.

You should assume the system needs to support both interactive creator experiences and programmatic integrations, including third-party tools that may want to invoke Gemini capabilities, manage creator projects, retrieve generated outputs, and track revisions or approvals. The scope is not to design the creative UI itself, but to specify the technical product foundation that would make the workflow reliable, extensible, safe, and useful.

The experience should consider:

- Core creator jobs-to-be-done, including ideation, asset generation, editing, versioning, review, export, and publishing handoff

- API surface area, including request/response patterns, object hierarchy, async job handling, webhooks, idempotency, and error semantics

- Data model entities such as creator identity, workspace, project, question, source asset, generated asset, revision, permission, policy decision, and usage event

- Multimodal data requirements for text, image, audio, video, metadata, provenance, and rights or consent signals

- Privacy, security, and access control for individual creators, teams, brands, minors, sensitive content, and enterprise accounts

- Safety and trust requirements, including content policy enforcement, watermarking or provenance, abuse prevention, auditability, and user control

- Reliability and scalability expectations, including latency classes, long-running generation jobs, quota management, retries, storage, and regional considerations

- Observability and rollout needs, including instrumentation, quality metrics, debugging hooks, developer adoption, migration paths, and backward compatibility

The goal is to evaluate how you translate an ambiguous Gemini creator workflow into a coherent technical product design: what must be modeled, what APIs should enable, where the key trade-offs sit, and how the platform can evolve safely while serving creators, developers, and Google’s broader ecosystem.
