Problem Statement Description
Product context: DoorDash is a local commerce and delivery platform; its products include restaurant delivery, DashPass, grocery and retail delivery, merchant tools, and dasher tools.
DoorDash Grocery serves large enterprise merchants such as regional and national grocery chains that depend on DoorDash to represent their inventory, pricing, promotions, fulfillment experience, and customer promise accurately. In this question, you are designing a trust-focused improvement for these enterprise merchants—not for small restaurants or consumers broadly.
Enterprise grocery partners face high-stakes operational complexity: large catalogs, frequent out-of-stocks, substitutions, store-level variation, delivery windows, compliance requirements, and brand-sensitive customer experiences. Trust can break down when merchants feel they lack visibility, control, predictability, or confidence that DoorDash is protecting their customer relationship and commercial outcomes.
Your task is to define a product improvement that strengthens merchant trust in DoorDash Grocery. Focus on the merchant workflow, the moments where confidence erodes, and the product experience needed to help enterprise teams understand, manage, and rely on DoorDash as a partner at scale.
The experience should consider:
- The primary enterprise merchant users, such as e-commerce leads, operations teams, store managers, category teams, or account owners
- The specific trust gap being addressed, such as order accuracy, inventory reliability, substitutions, issue resolution, reporting transparency, or operational control
- How the current grocery workflow may break down across catalog setup, order fulfillment, delivery, support, and post-order reconciliation
- What information, controls, alerts, workflows, or accountability mechanisms merchants may need
- How the experience should work across many stores, regions, and merchant systems
- Trade-offs between merchant control, consumer experience, Dasher efficiency, and DoorDash marketplace reliability
- How the product should handle exceptions, escalations, and repeated failures
- How success could be evaluated from a merchant trust and business impact perspective without over-optimizing for one stakeholder
The goal is to present a clear product design approach that identifies the right enterprise merchant problem, frames why trust matters in DoorDash Grocery, and describes an experience that could make merchants more confident in scaling their grocery business on DoorDash.
