Problem Statement Description
Product context: Spotify is an audio streaming company; its products include music, podcasts, audiobooks, playlists, recommendations, creator tools, subscriptions, and ads.
Spotify Wrapped is a highly visible, personalized year-end experience that turns listening behavior into a shareable recap. For audiobook listeners, trust is especially important because the content may be long-form, deeply personal, purchased or time-limited, shared across household contexts, and consumed differently from music or podcasts.
Design a trust-focused improvement for Wrapped specifically for audiobook listeners. The improvement should address moments where users may question whether Wrapped accurately understands their audiobook behavior, fairly represents their progress and preferences, or exposes information they would rather keep private.
Consider the end-to-end user workflow: discovering the Wrapped entry point, reviewing audiobook insights, interpreting how those insights were generated, deciding whether the recap feels accurate, and choosing whether or not to save or share it. The scope should stay within the Wrapped experience, but may consider how Spotify’s audiobook listening model, personalization, and sharing mechanics affect user trust.
The experience should consider:
- How audiobook listening differs from music listening, including long sessions, partial completion, rereads, skipping, sampling, and sleep-time listening.
- What “trust” means for this user segment: accuracy, transparency, privacy, control, fairness, and confidence in personalization.
- Which audiobook insights are useful or sensitive, such as genres, authors, narrators, completion milestones, listening time, or unfinished titles.
- How users might validate, correct, hide, or contextualize parts of their Wrapped experience without making the flow feel heavy.
- Edge cases such as shared accounts, family listening, children’s books, sensitive topics, offline listening, previews, and abandoned books.
- How the experience could support Spotify’s broader goals around personalization, discovery, retention, and audiobook engagement.
- How the design should balance delight and shareability with user control and credibility.
Your goal is to define the user problem, identify the most important trust gaps in Wrapped for audiobook listeners, and design a product experience that makes the recap feel accurate, respectful, and worth engaging with.
