Create a launch plan for a high-risk Photos feature for creators

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Google is a consumer technology, ads, AI, and cloud company; its products include Search, YouTube, Android, Maps, Gmail, Chrome, Google Play, Workspace, and Google Cloud.

Google Photos is preparing to launch a high-risk feature aimed at creators who use their photo and video libraries to produce, organize, edit, share, and monetize visual content. The feature sits in a sensitive product surface because Photos contains private memories, identity-rich media, location data, faces, and potentially copyrighted or commercially valuable assets.

You are the PM responsible for creating the launch plan. The interview is focused on execution: how you would take a risky creator-facing feature from readiness assessment through controlled rollout, monitoring, escalation, and broader launch. The plan should reflect Google’s scale, privacy expectations, AI responsibility considerations, cross-platform complexity, and the need to protect user trust while enabling creator value.

Assume the feature has meaningful upside for creators but also carries launch risks such as privacy mistakes, content misuse, low-quality outputs, creator confusion, regulatory exposure, infrastructure load, or reputational harm. Your task is not to design the feature itself, but to define how it should be safely launched.

The experience should consider:

- Clear launch objectives, success criteria, and explicit go/no-go thresholds before expanding access

- Key owners across product, engineering, privacy, legal, trust and safety, support, marketing, and communications

- Sequencing from internal testing to trusted creator pilots, limited market rollout, broader availability, and post-launch operations

- Dependencies such as policy review, consent flows, model or system readiness, help center content, creator education, and support tooling

- Risk mitigation for privacy, abuse, content quality, creator rights, misinformation, and unexpected user behavior

- Monitoring plans, dashboards, alerting, incident response, rollback options, and executive escalation paths

- Communication plans for creators, general Photos users, internal teams, press-sensitive scenarios, and customer support

- Launch risks across Android, iOS, web, cloud storage, sharing surfaces, and Google ecosystem integrations

The goal is to produce an execution-ready launch plan that shows how you would balance creator impact with user safety, operational rigor, and responsible rollout discipline for a high-risk Google Photos feature.
