Problem Statement Description
You are evaluating a developer platform whose customers are teams building mobile-first products, such as consumer apps, marketplace apps, fintech apps, or SaaS companion apps. These teams use the platform’s SDKs, APIs, documentation, dashboards, sandbox tools, and support channels to integrate platform capabilities into iOS, Android, or mobile web experiences.
The interview asks you to define what “success” means for this platform from a metrics perspective. The core outcome is integration success: whether developers can discover the platform, onboard, build, test, launch, and maintain reliable integrations that work well for mobile-first end users.
Your answer should focus on building a useful measurement framework rather than naming isolated vanity metrics. Consider the full developer journey, the business value of successful integrations, and the quality of the downstream mobile experience.
The experience should consider:
- Clear metric definitions, including numerators, denominators, and time windows.
- Developer funnel stages from sign-up to first API call, successful SDK implementation, test completion, production launch, and sustained usage.
- Mobile-specific integration quality, including SDK stability, latency, crash impact, app size, device coverage, network variability, and OS/version compatibility.
- Cohorts such as new vs. existing developers, company size, platform used, geography, integration type, and mobile operating system.
- Instrumentation needed across docs, developer console, SDKs, APIs, sandbox, support, and production traffic.
- Guardrail metrics for reliability, security, privacy, abuse, support burden, and end-user experience.
- Decision usefulness: how the metrics would help product, engineering, developer relations, and business teams prioritize improvements.
The goal is to define a balanced success-measurement system that shows whether the developer platform is helping mobile-first teams integrate quickly, launch confidently, and maintain high-quality production experiences over time.
