Design a better Feed experience for job seekers

Problem Statement Description

Product context: LinkedIn is Microsoft's professional network; its products include profiles, feed, jobs, recruiting, LinkedIn Learning, sales tools, messaging, and ads.

LinkedIn’s Feed is a central surface where professionals discover updates, opportunities, advice, learning content, and signals from their network. For job seekers, however, the Feed can feel noisy or indirect: posts about hiring, referrals, company culture, recruiter activity, skill-building, and market trends are mixed with general professional updates that may not help them make progress toward finding a role.

Design a better Feed experience specifically for job seekers on LinkedIn. Consider users who may be actively applying, casually exploring, switching careers, re-entering the workforce, or trying to understand what skills and companies are relevant to their goals. The experience should help them discover useful opportunities and career signals while preserving LinkedIn’s professional trust, identity quality, and network-driven value.

Focus on the product experience within or around the Feed rather than redesigning the entire jobs marketplace. You may consider how the Feed connects to jobs, profiles, learning, recruiters, company pages, creators, and the member’s professional network, but the core challenge is improving the daily discovery and engagement experience for job seekers.

The experience should consider:

- The key job-seeker segments and what “progress” looks like for each of them

- Common Feed friction such as irrelevant content, unclear next steps, repeated posts, low trust, or lack of personalization

- How job-related content, hiring signals, referrals, learning recommendations, and career advice should appear in the Feed

- How the experience adapts based on a member’s profile, skills, search activity, network, and career intent

- How to balance job-seeker needs with creator content, recruiter activity, company updates, and overall Feed quality

- Trust and safety concerns, including spammy hiring posts, misleading opportunities, and sensitive job-search intent

- How success could be evaluated through user behavior, job-search outcomes, engagement quality, and long-term retention

Your goal is to frame the user problem clearly, identify the most important job-seeker needs, and propose a coherent Feed experience that helps LinkedIn members move from passive browsing to meaningful career progress.
