Problem Statement Description
Product context: LinkedIn is Microsoft's professional network; its products include profiles, feed, jobs, recruiting, LinkedIn Learning, sales tools, messaging, and ads.
LinkedIn’s Feed is a high-frequency surface where professionals discover updates from their network, companies, creators, recruiters, and the broader labor market. For job seekers, however, the Feed can feel mixed-purpose: career advice, hiring posts, company updates, connection activity, learning content, and promoted content compete with social validation and general professional news.
Your task is to design a better Feed experience specifically for job seekers. Consider users who may be actively applying, casually exploring, switching careers, returning to work, or trying to improve their visibility to recruiters. The experience should help them make progress in their job search while preserving LinkedIn’s trust, professional identity, and network-driven value.
Focus on the end-to-end Feed workflow: what a job seeker comes to the Feed to accomplish, what signals LinkedIn can use to understand intent, how relevant content should be surfaced, and where current friction may appear. You do not need to redesign LinkedIn Jobs itself, but you should consider how Feed interacts with jobs, profiles, networking, companies, learning, and recruiter discovery.
The experience should consider:
- The primary job-seeker segments and their different motivations, urgency levels, and privacy concerns.
- Current Feed friction, such as noisy content, low relevance, unclear next steps, duplicated job discovery, or social pressure.
- How job seekers discover opportunities, hiring signals, company insights, referrals, skills content, and recruiter activity through Feed.
- How the Feed should balance personalized job-search utility with broader professional engagement.
- How trust, content quality, identity, and safety should be maintained when career outcomes are at stake.
- How the experience might adapt to explicit and implicit signals without making users feel exposed or over-targeted.
- How success could be evaluated across job-seeker progress, engagement quality, network value, and ecosystem health.
The goal is to frame and design a Feed experience that helps job seekers take meaningful next steps in their careers while strengthening LinkedIn’s role as a trusted professional network.
