Problem Statement Description
Product context: Salesforce is an enterprise CRM and cloud software company; its products include Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Commerce Cloud, Data Cloud, Einstein AI, Tableau, and Slack.
Salesforce Sales Cloud is a core system of record and daily workspace for sales reps managing leads, accounts, contacts, opportunities, activities, forecasts, and customer conversations. In this product design interview, you are asked to rethink the Sales Cloud experience specifically from the perspective of sales reps who must balance selling time with CRM data entry, pipeline management, follow-ups, internal collaboration, and manager visibility.
Assume the user is an individual contributor sales rep working in an enterprise or mid-market sales organization. They may handle inbound leads, outbound prospecting, active opportunities, renewals, or account expansion. Their workflow often spans email, calendar, calls, notes, Slack or collaboration tools, spreadsheets, forecasting meetings, and Sales Cloud records. The design challenge is to identify where the current experience creates friction and propose a better product experience that helps reps move deals forward while maintaining trusted CRM data.
Focus on the rep’s end-to-end workflow rather than redesigning Salesforce broadly. Consider what happens before, during, and after customer interactions; how reps prioritize work; how they update records; how they understand next steps; and how Sales Cloud can support productivity without creating compliance, data quality, or adoption issues in an enterprise environment.
The experience should consider:
- The primary sales rep personas, such as SDRs, account executives, account managers, or field reps, and which one you are designing for first
- The most important workflows in Sales Cloud, including lead follow-up, opportunity management, activity logging, pipeline updates, and next-best actions
- Pain points around manual data entry, context switching, duplicate information, incomplete records, poor prioritization, and low trust in CRM data
- How the experience fits into existing Salesforce objects, permissions, workflows, integrations, and admin configurability
- The role of AI or automation, including where it can assist reps while preserving transparency, accuracy, and enterprise trust
- Collaboration needs across reps, managers, sales ops, marketing, and customer-facing teams
- Mobile and desktop usage patterns, especially for reps working between meetings or in the field
- Success signals such as rep adoption, selling productivity, CRM data completeness, opportunity progression, and manager confidence in pipeline data
Your goal is to frame a clear user problem, define the target rep workflow, identify the highest-impact friction points, and describe a product experience that improves Sales Cloud for sales reps while respecting Salesforce’s enterprise context, extensibility, data advantage, and trust requirements.
