Problem Statement Description
Product context: Salesforce is an enterprise CRM and cloud software company; its products include Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Commerce Cloud, Data Cloud, Einstein AI, Tableau, and Slack. Slack is Salesforce's workplace collaboration product; its products include channels, DMs, huddles, workflow automation, search, app integrations, and enterprise administration.
You are asked to redesign the mobile experience of Slack for CIOs in large enterprises. CIOs are not typical daily chat users only; they are executive operators responsible for technology strategy, security posture, vendor performance, incident response, workforce productivity, AI governance, and business alignment across functions. Their mobile Slack experience often happens between meetings, while traveling, during escalations, or when they need a quick executive-level view without digging through noisy channels and threads.
In the Salesforce context, Slack sits within a broader enterprise platform spanning CRM, workflows, data, AI, service operations, and extensibility. The redesigned mobile experience should reflect how CIOs interact with executive teams, IT leaders, security teams, business-unit stakeholders, and external vendors, while also respecting enterprise trust, governance, compliance, and integration expectations.
Focus on identifying the highest-friction CIO workflows on mobile and defining what the product experience must support. Avoid designing for a generic Slack power user; anchor the experience around CIO-specific jobs such as staying informed, approving or escalating decisions, monitoring critical programs, responding to incidents, understanding organizational signals, and connecting collaboration to enterprise systems of record.
The experience should consider:
- The CIO’s mobile context: short sessions, high urgency, frequent interruptions, limited attention, and need for confidence before acting.
- Key user journeys across executive updates, incident escalation, security/compliance alerts, approval flows, strategic program tracking, and cross-functional decision-making.
- How Slack should reduce noise while preserving visibility into critical conversations, risks, and organizational signals.
- How integrations with Salesforce, IT service management, data platforms, security tools, and workflow systems could influence the mobile experience without overwhelming the user.
- Trust, privacy, permissions, auditability, and AI governance expectations for an executive enterprise user.
- Collaboration patterns between CIOs, direct reports, executive peers, admins, and external partners or vendors.
- Success criteria for the redesigned experience, including productivity, responsiveness, confidence, adoption, and enterprise value.
Your goal is to define a focused mobile product experience for CIOs that makes Slack more useful as an executive command and collaboration layer, while balancing simplicity, trust, extensibility, and the realities of enterprise workflows.
