Problem Statement Description
Product context: Uber is a mobility and delivery platform; its products include rides, Uber Eats, grocery and retail delivery, freight, driver and courier tools, and marketplace pricing.
Uber wants to improve outcomes for business travelers by introducing a new feature in the Driver App. The focus is not on redesigning the rider app experience directly, but on identifying what drivers need to know, do, or coordinate during a trip so that business travelers can have more reliable, professional, and low-friction rides.
Business travelers often have time-sensitive needs: airport transfers, meetings, unfamiliar cities, expense requirements, luggage, quiet work time, and higher expectations around punctuality and predictability. Drivers, meanwhile, must operate safely, manage earnings, handle back-to-back trips, and avoid being overloaded with rider-specific complexity. The feature should fit naturally into the driver workflow before, during, or after a trip.
Your task is to define the target user scenario, clarify what “better outcomes” means for business travelers, and design a Driver App feature that helps enable those outcomes while also being useful and acceptable for drivers. Consider how Uber’s marketplace dynamics, safety standards, reliability expectations, and operational constraints shape the product experience.
The experience should consider:
- Which business traveler moments matter most, such as airport pickup, commute to meetings, hotel transfers, or unfamiliar-city travel
- What information or actions drivers need in order to support those moments without compromising safety or increasing cognitive load
- How the feature fits into the driver’s existing trip flow: request acceptance, pickup, navigation, in-trip experience, drop-off, or post-trip
- How rider preferences, privacy, and consent should be handled when surfaced to drivers
- How to balance business traveler expectations with driver autonomy, fairness, and earnings
- How the feature could work across different cities, vehicle types, airport rules, and local operating conditions
- What success signals would indicate that business travelers, drivers, and Uber benefit from the feature
The goal is to propose a clear, user-centered product experience in the Uber Driver App that improves the business travel journey through better driver enablement, while remaining practical for drivers and scalable within Uber’s marketplace.
