Problem Statement Description
Product context: Uber is a mobility and delivery platform; its products include rides, Uber Eats, grocery and retail delivery, freight, driver and courier tools, and marketplace pricing.
Uber wants to explore a new feature in the Driver App that improves outcomes for business travelers at global scale. The core challenge is that the feature lives on the driver side of the marketplace, but the intended impact is on a specific rider segment: people traveling for work who value reliability, punctuality, safety, professionalism, predictable receipts, and low-friction trips across unfamiliar cities and countries.
Consider the end-to-end workflow around business travel: airport pickups, hotel and office commutes, tight meeting schedules, expense policies, international language or payment differences, luggage needs, pickup ambiguity, and expectations for a professional ride experience. Drivers also operate under constraints such as earnings goals, time pressure, local regulations, safety, limited screen attention, and varying trip demand.
This is a product design question focused on identifying the right user problem, defining the relevant driver and traveler personas, and shaping a Driver App experience that can improve trip quality without creating unfair burden, distraction, or marketplace inefficiency.
The experience should consider:
- Which business traveler jobs-to-be-done can realistically be influenced through the Driver App
- What drivers need to know or do differently before, during, and after these trips
- How to avoid exposing sensitive rider or employer information while still enabling better service
- How the feature would work across markets with different languages, regulations, airports, and business travel norms
- How to balance traveler reliability with driver autonomy, earnings, and safety
- What moments in the driver workflow are appropriate for new information, questions, or actions
- How the experience could support Uber’s marketplace goals such as liquidity, quality, retention, and unit economics
- How success and failure would be observed through rider, driver, and marketplace signals
The goal is to design a thoughtful, globally scalable Driver App feature that improves business traveler trip outcomes while respecting driver needs and Uber’s operational constraints.
